HB 2404 – initiatives; circulators; signature collection; contests

Introduced by Representative Vince Leach (R), LD 11

This bill impacts citizen initiatives. It amends the existing law for what an individual or organization must do to propose a law via petition. This bill will prevent petition circulators from being paid on a per-signature basis on any statewide initiative or referendum campaign.

It’s important to note that this bill does not impact petition circulators for individual candidate campaigns. They can still be paid-per-signature.

This bill passed the House Government Committee on February 16 with a 5 to 3 vote.

SB 1320 – employment; housing; public accommodations; antidiscrimination

Introduced by Senator Hobbs (D), LD 24

This bill would ban discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, and veteran status.

SB 1320 has been assigned to the Senate Rules Committee and Commerce & Public Safety Committee.
