Arizona Latino Leaders Voice Support for Same-Sex Marriage

At a central Phoenix gathering celebrating the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Latino leaders voiced their support for marriage equality. The 20 Latino leaders ranging from politicians to philanthropists were brought together by Why Marriage Matters Arizona, Equality Arizona, Freedom to Marry, and the Human Rights Campaign.

“Marriage matters for the same reasons to all people, gay or straight,” said Dolores Huerta, civil rights and labor activists who co-founded the National Farm Workers Association with Cesar Chavez, reports the Phoenix New Times. “And it’s our responsibility to support inclusion of our gay and lesbian friends and family members in the important institution of marriage.”
