The Supreme Court fight on the Gorsuch nomination is expected to see a final decision next Friday, April 7th. Remember, this is a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land and Gorsuch will be making hundreds of rulings based on his ideological club. These rulings will affect our equality immensely.

LGBTQ: Rights & Justice Symposium
Location: Pulliam Auditorium (Burton Barr Library)
This event will be a panel discussion on historical and memorable events for the LGBTQ community that occurred in Arizona. It will be presented in a timeline, and a moderator will provide each speaker with time to reflect on each event.
There will be numerous panelists such as Ron Wilcox, Marshall Shore (The Hip Historian), Scott Tickler (former Miss IGRA/AGRA) and Kim Moody (founder of the Alwun House Foundation).

“UpStairs Inferno” Screening
Location: Pulliam Auditorium (Burton Barr Library)
There will be a screening of the documentary Upstairs Inferno. This documentary tells the story of an arson attack that occurred at a New Orleans gay bar in the year 1973. As a result, thirty-three people passed away due to either the fire or smoke inhalation. This was considered the “the deadliest known attack on a gay club in U.S. history” until the 2016 nightclub shooting in Orlando.
After the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the director of this documentary, Robert Camina as well as Skip Bailey, who is a relative of one of the victims.

There will be a reception with a special performance by the Phoenix Metropolitans Men’s Chorus and Youth Choir. There will also be a resource fair with many community organizations such as the ACLU, Trans Queer Pueblo, LGBTQ Consortium, Native Health, and many others that have yet to be announced!

Families for Private Adoption is holding an education & support workshop which will serve as a “how to” guide to successful private adoption. Hear from those directly involved with domestic adoption such as: adoption attorneys, social workers, adoptive parents, and birthmothers.

2017 Fatherhood Summit: Helping Boys Thrive

The City of Phoenix Head Start Birth to Five Program Fatherhood Initiative and the City of Phoenix My Brother’s Keeper will be hosting the 2017 Fatherhood Summit: Helping Boys Thrive. The Summit hopes to provide men with the sources needed to become better parents and to “overcome the challenges they face and improve their education, work and family outcome”.
Their keynote speaker is a New York Times bestselling author, renowned educator, and counselor – Dr. Michael Gurian, who will help the attendees to become more committed fathers.
