LGBTQ+ Community Events

At Equality Arizona, we're driven by a belief in the power of community. Each month, we host events designed to build the confidence, knowledge, and wellness of LGBTQ+ Arizonans, from community-led events like Queer People Fit to our ongoing civic advocacy and political organizing meetings. Scroll through this page or tap the dates on the calendar to find some great ways to build yourself up and make a difference in your community!

Centered at the top of the frame there is large blocky black outlined text that states

Queer People Fit: Running

5:30 pm - 7:15 pm December 13, 2022 | register

Queer People Fit running events are hosted in partnership with FrontRunners & FrontWalkers Phoenix, a running and walking club for the LGBT+ community and allies. We’ll gather together at Margaret T Hance Park at 5:30 PM, and head out for a run around Downtown PHX after a 10 to 15 minute introduction. Stick around after the event to get some dinner with the group!

Location: Margaret T Hance Park, Phoenix

Equality Arizona Holiday Bash

6:00 pm - 10:00 pm December 14, 2022 | register

Help us celebrate our 30th anniversary and kick off our next year at our holiday bash! After a year of unprecedented hate and unexpected victories, we want to take a breath to thank everyone who has made our work possible — and not only possible, but a joy. So if you want to spend your holidays with queer community, come and join us! We'll have wine, snacks, and good cheer.

Location: Noria Apartments Clubhouse, Chandler

On a green tinted photo of a diverse group of people working together at a conference table, large text reads “Civic Advocacy Jam.” The date and location are also listed on the image: “12:30 PM, December 17. Tempe Public Library.” In the bottom left corner there is a small logo for Equality Arizona.

Civic Advocacy Jam

12:30 pm - 2:00 pm December 17, 2022 | register

Join us on December 17 for our next Civic Advocacy Jam! The 2023 legislative session is just around the corner, so this is our time to plan and prepare as a community to meet the challenges and opportunities the coming year will bring. At Equality Arizona, we know that civic advocacy means a lot more than reacting to flashpoints, so we’ll be using these monthly jams to practice design thinking for policy. Bring your ideas, your frustrations, and a willingness to think creatively!

On an off-white background, there is a title that reads “Banned Book Club” with a little illustrated stack of books next to it. In smaller text below this, it says “This Month’s Read: Out of Darkness by Ashley Hope Pérez.” Then there is the location, “Brick Road Coffee” followed by the date and time, “December 19 @ 6:30 PM” At the bottom of the image in italics, it reads “hosted by: Vanessa Marie.” Next to this is a photo of Vanessa Marie, the book club host.

Banned Book Club

6:30 pm - 8:00 pm December 19, 2022 | register

As book bans sweep the nation, one great way to push back is to read! Our banned book of the month is Out of Darkness, by Ashley Hope Pérez, a novel centered on the New London School Explosion of 1937, that confronts difficult historical realities of racism and segregation. Join us at Brick Road coffee on November 21 to discuss the book and the backlash with our book club host Vanessa Marie!

Location: Brick Road Coffee, Tempe

Over a photo from the South Mountain Preserve, large text reads “Queer People Fit. There is more text that says “South Mountain. December 20. 5:30 to 7:30 PM.” In the bottom right corner of the image there is a logo for Equality Arizona.

Queer People Fit: South Mountain

5:30 pm - 7:30 pm December 20, 2022 | register

Move with us to build the movement for equality! Get your holiday sweaters on and join us for a walk along the accessible Judith Tunnell trail at South Mountain on Tuesday, December 20. The Queer People Fit series exists for LGBTQ+ people to come together to build community and to find a sense of belonging, and there’s no one right way to do that! So bring a thermos of tea, or an instant camera, or plug in your headphones and take the walk at your own pace.
